Transition 2017 is well underway and Donald Trump is adding to his team daily. One of his latest additions is KT McFarland, who will be serving as his Deputy National Security Adviser under Lt. General Michael Flynn.

Trump announced McFarland would be joining his national security team on November 25th, stating “She has tremendous experience and innate talent that will complement the fantastic team we are assembling, which is crucial because nothing is more important than keeping our people safe.”

In a statement released after her role was announced, McFarland said,  “The American people chose Donald J. Trump to lead them for a reason. He has the courage, brilliance and energy to Make America Great Again, and nobody has called foreign policy right more than President-elect Trump, and he gets no credit for it.”

Here are twelve things you need to know about KT McFarland

  1. McFarland was a frequent national security analyst for Fox News.

  2. KT was a a speechwriter and assistant Secretary of Defense Pentagon spokesman under Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger.

  3. In 1985, she received the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, which is the Defense Department’s highest civilian award.

  4. She is a graduate of George Washington University, University of Oxford, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

  5. KT is very critical of Obama’s handling of Islamic Terrorism.

  6. She is very knowledgeable on Iran and has given numerous talks on the Hill and at college universities around the country to critique the Iran Deal.

  7. McFarland served as former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs under President Ronald Reagan.

  8. She sought the Republican Senate nomination to run against Hillary Clinton when she was a Senator in New York in 2006.

  9. She worked as an aide to Henry Kissinger in the 1970s when he was serving as National Security Adviser.

  10. On the topic of fighting terrorism, she has stated, We need to take a different approach to fighting terrorism than the one-size-fits-all, politically correct policy we have had in place for over a decade.”

  12. The current Deputy National Security Adviser is Avril Haines.  Haines has been in the position since 2015, and she is the first female to hold the position.
