When I graduated from college and entered the real world, I quickly realized that I had no idea how to budget. In fact, I had simply never done it before. I spent what I wanted in college, never that much, and pretty much knew I wasn’t going to go broke because I worked hard and didn’t have to pay rent, thanks to my nice dorm room. In the real world, you have to pay rent, and for health insurance, all while planning ahead for your monthly phone payment and your plane rides home for the holidays and oh yeah, how much salary will you actually receive after taxes? These are all things you don’t learn in college, which sucks, but luckily, the real world wants to help you.
