While it’s easy to let one thing completely take over your schedule, it’s vital to keep a healthy and balanced lifestyle by contributing your time and effort to things that fill different areas of life. Finding this perfect balance is an ongoing learning process, however there are a few guidelines that can help you find it.
1) Time for you
Respect yourself enough to know when you need time to yourself. Remind yourself that you are only human and you need time to recharge and unwind. When you feel like you are overwhelmed or stuck, take time to do something that you love.
2) Getting Inspired
Make the first thing you do each morning something that inspires you for the day. Whether this is reading your favorite book chapter or calling a mentor, this will ultimately set the tone for your day. Getting inspired will help your productivity throughout the day and allow you to keep your eyes on your goals.
3) Cherishing Friendships
Friendships take time and effort to flourish. Part of a balanced lifestyle is setting aside quality time to catch up with friends. Make lunch or coffee dates often to unwind and chat with friends about what’s going on in your lives. Remember to pick friends wisely – these are the people who should keep you grounded.
4) Staying Healthy
You will be completely unproductive if you are not mentally and physically healthy. Your top priority should be making sure that you are feeding yourself well – both nutritionally and intellectually.
5) Avoiding Career Obsession
Being a motivated individual with goals and aspirations is necessary. However, knowing exactly how to balance this with other areas of life is key. Aim not to obsess over grades or work to the point of neglecting relationships and other responsibilities.
6) Dating Balance
I am not here to tell you who to date and who not to date. However, a relationship should be balanced equally with other priorities. It should not get in the way of your goals and aspirations, but inspire you to be better.
