Did you enjoy reading our June Official Female Leaders Book Club pick–Most Likely by Sarah Watson? The fun, thought-provoking novel explores female friendship through their senior year of high school and at the end of the novel, we saw one of the four protagonists become the President of the United States. Along the way, they fought for Memorial Park, stood up against town politics, learned more about themselves, and grew together. If you liked Most Likely and are looking for your next read, check out these 12 books.

Hearts Unbroken by Cynthia Leitich Smith

Were you inspired by the girls’ fight for Memorial Park? You’ll enjoy Hearts Unbroken, in which a Native American teen helps stand up against prejudice, racism, and L Frank Baum to protect herself, her family, and her people. Throughout the book, she’s also getting involved in journalism, just like Jordan!

10 Thing I Hate About Pinky by Sandhya Menon

Another book with a great activism element, 10 Things I Hate About Pinky is out in July, but it’s all about a Desi teen who is a bit of a rebel and wants to save a local area near her family’s vacation home. Oh, and she falls in love in the process, because obviously. It’s a great rom-com read with a strong female protagonist.

The Prettiest by Brigit Young

Female friendships flourish in this YA novel about a group of girls standing up against sexism and objectification in their school. If you loved the girl-group dynamic of Most Likely and love seeing women rise up against injustice, you’ll enjoy this book too!

Girls Save the World in This One by Ash Parsons

Female friendship meets the supernatural in this fun YA novel about a group of girls who stop a group of real zombies while at a zombie convention. Like Most Likely, there’s some great female friendship in this novel as well  as the all-too-known stressors of the college admissions process.

Watch Us Rise by Renee Watson and Ellen Hagan

Two friends join forces to start a Women’s Rights Club at their progressive high school that isn’t being progressive towards women in this thought-provoking YA novel that has so much heart. Plus, it features a lot of art and poetry and it a great read for a book club of friends to discuss!

All-American Girl by Meg Cabot

This oldie-but-goodie novel about a girl dating the first son is a teen classic! Meg Cabot soars in YA fiction, and if you liked the nearby political element on Most Likely, and our previous pick American Royals, you should pick this up.

Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan

If you want more books about strong female friendship, pick up Hot Dog Girl. Summer plans go off course when a girl doesn’t get her dream costume at the amusement park, but then she learns it’s their last summer, and she’ll do whatever it takes to save it. This combines some of the best elements of Most Likely in a new way!

500 Words or Less by Juleah del Rosario

Fascinated by the stress of college admissions in Most Likely? Want a main character who will make you love them and hate them a little bit? Check out 500 Words or Less, a novel in verse by Juleah del Rosario. It’s a really honest portrayal of stress and heartbreak and also a quick read!

Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win by Jo Piazza

Love women in politics? Want to read about an uphill battle for elected official complete with family and personal drama? This is the book for you! It’s adult fiction that teens and young adults alike will enjoy.

Young Jane Young by Gabrielle Zevin

A young woman entering politics gets threats from the past she ran away from in this thought-provoking novel by Gabrielle Zevin! It’s part Monica Lewinski, part underdog war story, and an absolutely fascinating read told from multiple points of view.

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

College admissions, family stressors, and romance collide in this spectacularly reviewed novel by Nicola Yoon. Plus, it’s not a film you can stream! Two teens meet in the most unlikely of circumstances on one day in NYC and that day will change their lives forever. Get ready to cry at the end.

Campaign Widows

This is sort of Most Likely’s big sister and can best described as Real Housewives meets the West Wing. It follows five campaign widows — wives, girlfriends, and boyfriends of men on the campaign trail leading up the presidential election and the bond that unites them.
