Today, January 22nd, 2017, marks the 44th anniversary of a tragedy to humankind, also known as Roe vs. Wade –  the 1973 Supreme Court case that resulted in the legalization of abortion in the United States. In fact, today alone, over 3,000 lives have been taken through the injustice of abortion, and since 1973, over 58 million lives have been claimed by this atrocity. We live in a society where people are allowed to take the life of unborn human beings, where our government undeniably supports a woman’s choice to kill her child, and, according to Guttmacher Law Institute, where 21 percent of pregnancies end in abortion.

For the past 43 years, abortions in the United States have violated the constitutional rights of numerous unborn children.  Abortion facilities have continued to hold little to no regard for women. They are neglecting to fully disclose details of the cruelty of the procedure, and neglecting to inform them of the potential physical, mental, and emotional health risks that come with having an abortion.  Innocent, helpless human beings have had their lives stripped away from them, without ever getting the chance to pursue the life God granted them.

Every person – no matter their age, size, gender, race, or sex – deserves the fundamental human rights that the Constitution of the United States of America promises. The right to life. It states in the Declaration of Independence, “All men are created equal. They are endowed by their Creator to certain unalienable Rights, and among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” The term “unalienable” is defined by Oxford Dictionary as “not subject to be taken away from or given away by the possessor.” The decision of whether or not a person deserves to live can not be determined by Congress or any other human being. It is a decision that is simply out of reach of any form of government. The current abortion laws in our nation go against the Constitution that America was founded upon. Through the legalization of abortion, the government of the United States of America has deliberately deprived a large portion of the human population from their God-given, constitutional rights.

Not only does abortion unjustly take the life of an unborn human being, it also harms the mother. Many women who have an abortion believe, at that time, that it is their only option. Women generally look at the current state of their life, instead of picturing their future and the effects abortion could have on it.  Abortion gives a woman the right to choose whether or not she wants a child. That choice often results in many future physical and psychological issues. Physically, abortion can result in infertility, breast cancer, future miscarriages, and even death. However, the risks to the emotional/mental health of women are even more serious. According to the Elliot Institute, suicide rates among women who have abortions are six times higher than those who give birth. Women who have an abortion are given their “choice”, but it comes with severe consequences. In fact, 93 percent of the time, women who have had an abortion say it is their biggest regret in life.
