As a woman in the America, there are so many opportunities each and every day that we can benefit from. We have the ability to make our own choices and find passions that interest us most. We truly are presented with limitless opportunities. Here is why I love being a woman in a country with so much to offer, the United States.

We have choices.

Due to American ingenuity and innovation, there are numerous stores ranging from local boutiques to chain stores for women to buy clothes, accessories, and shoes from. Capitalism allows consumers to pick which styles and brands they want whenever they want. If a woman wants to go to a cheaper store to find better sales, she is more than entitled to do so.

We are not afraid to pursue our passions.

As a women in the United States, many of us aren’t afraid to work overtime in order to accomplish our goals. We have the great support consisting of family, friends, and professors who inspire us to reach my potential. Different women can have different support systems in order to achieve their potential. The key is surround ourselves with people who build us up and do not diminish our dreams by comparing us to others or playing the victim card.

We can feel comfortable practicing our religion.

We are able to practice our religion free from discrimination and we do not have to fear dying because of our religion(s). In the United States, we are free to discuss and even practice different religions. Whether we are Muslim, Christian, Jew, or follow any other set of beliefs, we have the freedom to believe what you want. According to the International Humanist and Ethical Union, in 13 countries, atheists can be put to death because they do not believe in religion. Of the eight countries that the Index on Censorship lists as the worst for religious freedom, Burma is the worst offender because of the treatment of its minority religions – Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. Minority faiths in Burma are denied building permits. Not to mention, they are often forced to convert to the majority faith of Theravada Buddhist. We should appreciate the fact that this is not the case in America.

We do not have to settle.

If we are not happy with friends, major, boyfriend, or any other aspect of our lives, we do not have to settle. The power is in our hands to change the situation. Life is too short to spend it with people who do not make us better, a major that does not motivate us, or boyfriends that lower our standards. If you are feeling this way in everyday life, then you need to make a positive change. Never settle for anything that is below your standards. Always focus forward on your goals and aspirations.

We are proud to be an American.

In a culture that is quick to judge how bad America is, was, and will be, it is the best country to live in as a woman. There is an abundance of opportunities and women are free to choose whichever ones they want to pursue. People and circumstances can make it hard to achieve certain goals, but there will always be roadblocks unique to every woman. It is important to not let the roadblocks define our future. At the end of the day, only you can make or break your own success.

When I am not eating Jif Peanut Butter or talking to others about politics you can find me with my nose in a good book or trying to finish One Tree Hill. America is the best country in the world and red, white, and blue is one of the best color combos known to (wo)man.
