Natural disasters are always one of the biggest devastation we can see during our lifetime. The bushfires in Australia have already caused at least 25 fatalities, and could be responsible for the death of almost 1 billion animals. The current count of animal lives lost is over a half billion, according to the University of Sydney.  Experts say that the smoke from the fires have even reached New Zealand, and that these fires will burn for months. Police have arrested 24 people on arson charges, which can land them up to 21 years in jail. With all of this devastation – it’s hard to know what to do to help. Check out some of these sources below to make a difference.

Australian Red Cross

The Australian Red Cross prefers monetary donations, but will also accept clothing donations for their “Red Cross shops,” where the Red Cross will sell them for further fundrasing. Since the fires began in September 2019, the Australian Red Cross has been able to register more than 30,000 people as “safe.”

Salvation Army Australia

The Salvation Army Australia is working tirelessly to provide meals for victims of the bushfires. Your donation will go a long way in helping their team to provide for the victims throughout the entirety of this crisis and aftermath.

GIVIT

This is a great option if you are not able to donate financially, but have items you can donate. Check out their full list of items needed and where to send them to.

NSW Rural Fire Rescue

The Rural Fire Rescue service provides crucial updates for anyone who would like to check in on the status of the major fires. Click here for their updates. They hold fundraisers as well, but you may donate to them directly by clicking here. You may also donate to actress Celeste Barber’s donation page on Facebook, which has already raised more than $30 million for the NSW Rural Fire Rescue.

Port Macquarie Koala Hospital

Since the fires started, thousands of koalas have died. The Koala Hospital is asking for your help to save the koalas that are still fighting to stay alive.

RSPCA New South Wales

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a great organization to donate to during these hard times. The RSPCA will work to save animals and livestock in all affected and threatened areas. Click here to donate.

World Wildlife Fund

Another fundraiser for the wildlife. These donations will go straight to treatment of an injured koala, planting trees for the koalas, and much more. Check out their website for more information.

 WIRES

Not exactly the type of wire you are thinking of. WIRES stands for the NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service, Inc. You may donate via credit card, PayPal, Facebook, or via Bank Deposit.

Pray!

Yes, this absolutely helps, too. If you are not able to donate financially, please donate your thoughts and prayers for the health and safety of the people, animals, and the land affected by this disaster.

Whether you donate $5, or $500, your donation will make an impact. Let’s start the new decade with a season of giving!
