Earlier today, Kelly Loeffler was announced as the interim replacement for Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA). Isakson is resigning later this month due to health problems. Loeffler, also a Republican, was appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp.

Loeffler is co-owner of the Atlanta Dream WNBA team. She is also chief executive of Bakkt, a bitcoin trading platform headquartered in Atlanta. In her first remarks as the Senate appointee, she stated that she is “pro-Second Amendment, pro-military, pro-Trump and pro-wall.”

Loeffler, when sworn in, will be the 26th woman currently serving in the Senate, and will be the 8th Republican woman this term.

The Senate seat is up for special election in November 2020 to complete the rest of Isakson’s vacated term. Loeffler is expected to run for the seat. In fact, she is rumored to be contributing $20 million of her own money to fund her campaign.

In what should be a rallying cry for conservative women everywhere, Loeffler emphatically shared “not every strong woman in America is a liberal. Many of us are conservatives and proud of it.”

It will be exciting to see the work that another conservative woman in the Senate accomplishes and we look forward to following her 2020 campaign.
