We’re back! It’s time for Conservative Women Weekly, FFL’s latest initiative focused on celebrating conservative women wins. These women’s successes may not have made headlines this week, but these stories are worth telling and supporting.

We had a busy week in conservative news this week! Here are four highlights:

Republican Scherie Murray announces congressional run against Ocasio-Cortez

In an announcement that turned heads on both sides of the aisle, Republican Scherie Murray officially launched a campaign to challenge Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the upcoming 2020 election in NY-14. She comes alongside three other Republicans who have made the same announcement.

Murray grew up in Southeast Queens after immigrating to the United States from Jamaica at age 9. She has served in a variety of roles, beginning with her work in the city’s Jamaica Bus Depot, and onward to founding a television and advertising company. Murray is not new to the world of politics, either. She has worked as a district leader for the New York Republican State Committee, and she has run for public office twice. We’ll be keeping an eye on Murray as she seeks to win a seat against Ocasio-Cortez based on her business, political, and personal experience.

Holly Grange throws hat into 2020 race for Governor of North Carolina

A member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, Holly Grange announced a run for governor of her state this week. Grange is a West Point graduate and a veteran of the US Army. She has also been named a “Job Champion” during her two terms of service in the NC House. She enters the 2020 NC gubernatorial field alongside the state’s Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest. Whoever takes the Republican nomination will likely face Democratic Governor Roy Cooper in the general election. We love to see qualified women running for office. We wish her luck as she launches her campaign for what is sure to be an interesting race!

Elise Stefanik awarded the Legislator Leadership Award from the Educational Theatre Association

Congratulations to Congresswoman Elise Stefanik on winning the Legislator Leadership award. An honor granted by the Educational Theatre Association, this award recognizes public leaders who have supported art education. As a longtime supporter of the arts, as well as co-chair of both the Congressional STEAM Caucus and the Congressional Arts Caucus, this award is well-deserved. Stefanik expressed her passion for the arts upon receiving the award, noting that the arts are important for the “economic health of communities and the economy overall.”

Ivanka Trump secures private sector funds to bolster her initiative to build up women worldwide

The Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative is a White House effort spearheaded by Ivanka Trump. She recently secured an additional $160 million in private sector and nongovernmental organization money to complement the current funding. These funds support 14 innovative projects across 22 countries that are set to benefit 100,000 women, specifically those in developing nations. Trump’s efforts since the launch of this initiative in February all center around empowering women in the workforce and as entrepreneurs, as well as reducing barriers to success for women in the economy. Ivanka Trump has led the charge in this administration to empower women in the US and abroad. In her words, “we are just getting started.”

Bonus: Congratulations, Allie!

A bonus shout-out to new mama, Allie Beth Stuckey! Her example as a pro-life conservative woman carries even greater a weight in light of this new role as a mother to a baby girl. Thanks for all you do to empower conservative women. We’re excited to see how that evolves now as you step into this new phase of life!
