Several conservatives have recently left Facebook and Twitter for Parler and MeWe. If you haven’t heard of them, Parler and MeWe are social media platforms that are uncensored. I love a new app as much as the next person, but we don’t need to leave well-established platforms in the dust. Conservatives need a presence on all social media platforms.

Parler and MeWe are awesome platforms, but we also need to stay on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. If conservatives move to new platforms and liberals stay on the old ones, social media becomes a giant echo chamber. This is the opposite of what’s needed on either side of the aisle. We must challenge each other to form educated opinions and share our beliefs.

The only way to expand the conservative movement and keep reaching the next generation of conservative women is to be able to reach them where they are, which likely includes all platforms. If you follow FFL, you know that we have a large following across all platforms. Without accounts like FFL being prominent on social media, movements like #WalkAway would be less likely to happen. It’s always refreshing to hear a member of the FFL Network talk about how their views changed after they discovered FFL and learned conservative values.

We may not change every left-leaning friend’s mind, but we can still influence them by being present on every social media platform. It’s also important to know what issues the left is discussing so that we are able to form our own opinion on the issue and know how to back it up with facts. We are also able to get content from following those across the aisle. No, not by cancelling them, but by remaking their leftist graphics and photographs with a conservative twist. Also, without educating ourselves on left-leaning trends on social media, we will never be able to reach that audience and explain why we disagree with them. You don’t have to fight with those across the aisle on social media, but you should know what they’re discussing so you’re prepared when your liberal best friend asks for your opinion.

Social media should also be a place to support and connect with family and friends, regardless of political affiliation. Your liberal friend probably won’t move to Parler, but you should still be able to connect with them on social media. Leaving a platform because we disagree with how politics are being handled on it is similar to being unfollowed because of our political views. It doesn’t make sense to leave an entire platform that’s been around for years, yet complain when the girl you took science with in high school unfollows you for posting a pro-life graphic on Instagram.

Also, when job searching, companies usually check for social media accounts and presence. It can be a red flag to an employer if you do not have social media accounts. Even if you make “professional accounts” where you only share things relevant to your career, you need to have some kind of profile on a few platforms. I’ve seen job applications ask for Facebook and Twitter links, but not Parler and MeWe. This may change in the future, but I wouldn’t delete these accounts just yet. If you aren’t solely applying to conservative jobs, it may also be a red flag to employers if you only have accounts on conservative platforms.

Conservatives need a presence on every platform, but we are free to choose which, if any, platforms we will create accounts on. That’s one of the many beautiful things about freedom and capitalism. We get to choose whether or not to be present on social media. Personally, I have accounts on every social media platform. There’s something to learn in every platform, trend, and account you may follow. We have a world of information at our fingertips. Why not use it?

If you’re looking for a group of like minded women across the platforms, I suggest following FFL and joining the Future Female Leaders Network on Facebook. We would love to have you and continue to amplify the voices of conservative women across every platform.
