I know, you might be tired of hearing about Ariana Grande, who has basically dominated the charts since August 2018, but we can’t ignore her new highly anticipated album, thank u, next. With the help of my sister, I put together your ultimate ranking of the tracks from this new album. If I’m being honest though, there’s not a bad track. Let’s begin:

12) makeup

This song is okay, but it doesn’t have any attributes that make it stand out. It feels a little repetitive. However, the lyric “Highlight of my life, just like that Fenty Beauty kit” is pretty iconic, I will admit, but Ariana can do better. Luckily, this is the lowest ranked song, but I would still listen to it. It can only go up from here.

11) bad idea

This song starts off so strong. After that though, it becomes very repetitive lyrically and I’m not a fan of the instrumental that starts about three and a half minutes in. To me, it feels misplaced.

10) fake smile

On this track, Ariana Grande shows us a more vulnerable, honest side. The lyrics talk about being tired of putting up a fake smile. A standout lyric from this one is ““And I won’t say I’m feeling fine/After what I been through, I can’t lie.” Overall, she sends a message of being honest about your emotional state.

9) needy

Lyrically, this song is very strong. Again, fans get to see a more vulnerable and relatable side of Grande. I particularly like the lyric “I admit that I’m a lil’ messed up/ But I can hide it when I’m all dressed up” Like fake smile, the song discusses how Ariana feels versus how the world sees her. The song ends with a violin section that is very stylistically Ariana Grande, which makes the song feel uniquely like her.

8) thank u, next

I know, I know, this is the song that everyone on the planet has been listening to on repeat for the past two months. It’s still a great song, but I think it’s overshadowed by some non-singles on the album. The song itself is extremely empowering, and is a positive and healthy way to look at a breakup or relationships in general. These lyrics say it all: “I know they say I move on too fast/But this one gon’ last/’Cause her name is Ari/And I’m so good with that/She taught me love/She taught me patience/How she handles pain/That ****s amazing” Ariana found what she was looking for in a relationship in herself, and that’s an important message for young women.

Oh, and this music video was absolutely iconic. That I will not deny.

7) imagine

To me, this song is a reminder of why Ariana dominates the pop charts: her insane vocals. This song is very reminiscent of her earlier, more belty music from the Dangerous Woman era. I mean, how can you not like this song when she breaks out the whistle notes around 2:44?

6) in my head

Strong lyrics and strong vocals here. The track begins with a voiceover that says “Here’s the thing: you’re in love with a version of a person that you’ve created in your head, that you’re trying to but cannot fix,” which I would argue is the most insightful lyric from the entire album. I think, especially for young women, they can relate to the struggle of falling in love with the version of someone that they want to see, or the version they think that can shape them to be.

5) ghostin

Grab your tissues, because this one has left the internet emotional. The lyrics are haunting, honest, and heartbreaking. Some prime examples are “Heavy tears, a rain parade from Hell” and “We’ll get through this, we’ll get past this, I’m a girl with/A whole lot of baggage.” Without a doubt, this is the most hard-hitting song on the album.

4) bloodline

Wow, talk about starting off with a bang. This song’s intro is so good. This track definitely leans towards her newer style of music, and has an insanely catchy beat. It makes me feel powerful. This song I would dance around my living room to.

3) break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored

When Grande released the album, she also dropped the music video to this song, and she left the internet #shook. It’s currently the #1 trending video on Youtube. Again, this track is super catchy. Is it her strongest lyrically? No, but what it lacks in lyrics, it makes up for in being the kind of song that you play over and over and over.

This song is out of this world! I had to make the pun, I’m so sorry. It is a BOP. It’s catchy, upbeat, and has a very distinct Ariana Grande vibe. Give me about two more hours, I’ll know all the lyrics.

1) 7 rings

I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it,” is truly the attitude I aspire to have.  I have so much to say about this track. Music video? Iconic. Melody from “My Favorite Things,” from The Sound of Music? Iconic. Lyrics? ICONIC. This is the song I play to feel like a girl boss, and is my 2019 mood. For anyone and everyone who has been through some tough times, “Been through some bad ****, I should be a sad *****/Who woulda thought it’d turn me to a savage”- let that be your mantra for 2019.

Now go, put your hair in a high ponytail, blast this album, and channel your inner Ariana Grande.
