The five former living US Presidents have joined together for a new project, One America Appeal. This initiative was originally started to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Harvey, but soon expanded to include Hurricane Irma as it makes landfall in the continental US this weekend. The former presidents “were inspired to come together to lend their support to the people and communities affected and to the first responders, organizations, volunteers and neighbors who have been providing assistance to victims of Hurricane Harvey,” according to a press release from George H.W. Bush’s office. The website states,

Hurricane Harvey brought terrible devastation – but it also brought out the best in humanity. As former Presidents, we wanted to come together and join our fellow citizens in supporting Houston and the communities along the Gulf Coast as they rebuild.

Please give whatever you can. Every cent donated through the One America Appeal will help the victims recover. Thank you.

Donations may be made at One America Appeal’s website. President Donald Trump also tweeted in support.

Watching all five come together, in the video above, despite political affiliation in our current political landscape was refreshing. In fact, it left many wondering what each of them are up to post office. As always, we’re broken it down for you. Let’s go in chronological order.

Jimmy Carter served as POTUS from 1977 to 1981 and is currently 92 years old. Since his tenure in the White House, he has opened his presidential library in Atlanta, Georgia, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. President Carter has served as the honorary chair of the World Justice Project. He was very open about his battle with cancer, which is currently in remission. In 2017 attended the inauguration of President Trump. Politically, he says he voted for Bernie SandersIn his 2015 book, A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety he offers insight into his life of public service and finding a new life after losing his re-election campaign in 1980 to Ronald Reagan.

George HW Bush (41) is the oldest living president, clocking in at 111 days older than Jimmy Carter. He is also 92 and served as POTUS from 1989 to 1993. The former president hasn’t been far from our thoughts in recent years as he has battled several health scares and been a source of light at many times, including during the 51st Super Bowl, when he and his wife of 70+ years, Barbara, oversaw the coin toss. He even went skydiving on his 90th birthday, despite being confined to a wheelchair most of the time. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011 and the Profile in Courage Award in 2014. These are both spectacular accolades for a man who has spent his life in public service.  He did not attend President Trump’s inauguration due to poor health.

Bill Clinton served as POTUS from 1993 to 2001 and is currently 70 years old. Most of his post-White House life has been dominated by work with the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative and his speaking engagements across the globe. He is often on the campaign trail for Democrat politicians, including his wife and other rising stars in the party. He won the 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom and is now a vegan.

George W Bush (43) is, like Clinton, now 70 years old. He served as POTUS from 2001 to 2009, taking office just before the horrific events of 9/11. The former president has lived a relatively private life since leaving the White House, devoting himself to his charities, most notably the Wounded Warrior Project. He has written several books since his presidency, including a memoir of his father, 41: A Portrait of My Father, and most recently, Portraits of  Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors. He’s become passionate about his paintings and using his fame as a former president to draw attention to veteran causes, including PTSD.  He and his wife Laura live in Texas and recently rescued a new puppy, Freddy.

Our most recent White House resident, Barack Obama, has not gone far since he left office in January and handed over the reins to Trump. After serving as POTUS from 2009 to 2017, he took a long vacation with his family. President Obama is now settling into his home in DC. His presidential library is planned to be built in the coming years in his hometown of Chicago. In March of 2017, he was awarded the Profile of Courage Award. The former president and his wife are working on a book with Penguin Random House.
