Unless you live under a rock, you know that Donald Trump is carrying the lead of votes in the Republican Party. Though you may have also heard that there’s a new Donald Trump in town. Shonda Rhimes’ popular show Scandal holds it’s own presidential election with almost real life candidates we have today. Hollis Doyle makes a return to the series, last seen in season 2, declaring his candidacy for president. Trump and Doyle both have been married and divorced many of times and both have a substantial amount of money, which we never hear the end of. Not only does Doyle closely resemble Trump in looks, but he acts like him as well as they both have the same two ongoing opinions/arguments:
Their need to let everyone know how rich they are:
“I got money, Republican money, the kind of money that wins elections.” – Doyle
“The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.” – Trump
Their controversial stance on immigration:
“If you’re some pesky little border-crosser, a sad little refugee begging for a hand-out, you will not be welcome. This is America’s tomorrow, not yours!” – Doyle
“We have to have a wall. We have to have a border. And in that wall we’re going to have a big fat door where people can come into the country, but they have to come in legally.” – Trump
Whether its Trumps plan to make America great again or Doyle’s plan to Embrace America’s tomorrow, they both have a lot to say about their plans for America.
Gregg Henry, who plays Hollis Doyle on Scandal, sat down with A Hollywood Reporter to discuss the character. ”We immediately thought it he was the perfect guy to mirror and spoof the running of Trump with his billions and inappropriate speech.” Henry then proceeded to state his support for Hillary Clinton, along with Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitzgerald Grant, and Kerry Washington, who plays Olivia Pope. Their support for Hillary Clinton caused there to be “laughter and applaud” during the table read, some even said it was perfect for Hollis to be Trump.
Scandal’s President Grant states “Hollis is a joke, no one will take him seriously, I assure you he’s not gonna be a problem.” I’m not sure if he’s talking about Doyle or Trump, but it looks as though President Grant’s predictions could be incorrect, given that both Hoyle and Trump are taking the lead – much to everyone’s surprise.
