Yesterday morning, House Dems took to the floor in an effort to pass a number of gun control measures. No, really. While millions of Americans were hard at work trying to earn a paycheck and support their families, liberal members of Congress sat criss cross applesauce on the floor and used hashtag activism to get attention. Apparently, this is how our representatives enact change when tragedy strikes.

Those on the left call it bravery, and I have to wonder just how brave these people are to petition Second Amendment rights and due process while sitting cozily in a room guarded by armed security details. Protection only for the few elites who can afford it, amirite? Those on the left are calling it leadership, and I have to question exactly what kind of leader it takes to literally sit on the floor like a four year old when they don’t get their way. Now, before some leftie comes at me and compares this little congressional tantrum to the sit-ins during the civil rights movement, I just want to clarify that historically sit-ins have pushed for MORE civil liberties, not less. Stripping away the rights of American citizens is hardly a noble cause.

Today, they continue to disrupt the votes that were supposed to take place. Rep John Lewis claims they are “making progress.” Progress towards what, exactly? Michael Caputo spoke today on CNN proclaiming that they could not “do nothing.” So.. what are they doing? They’re embarrassing their party, they’re embarrassing their position, and they’re embarrassing their country.

I find it absolutely appalling that Dems have the audacity to tweet #DoYourJob to elected officials across the aisle while they waste away your tax dollars by intentionally breaking the House rules. House Dems: do YOUR job. Draft some meaningful legislation that doesn’t infringe upon the rights of the American people. Stop whining on social media about how your party was unable to garner the votes needed to pass previously proposed bills. Believe it or not, the laws you propose need to be popular enough to be voted for, and if they aren’t, it’s part of your job to whip up votes or compromise on the legislation. Get up off the floor, close your Twitter app. Your selfie on the House chamber floor will not save a victim of gun violence, and it won’t mend the broken hearts of those affected. You’re cowards for pretending to care in front of the cameras and doing literally nothing behind closed doors. We don’t need politicians who will sit down. We need politicians who will stand up for our civil rights and find a way to constitutionally keep us safe.
