I have a pretty low bar for Democrats in politics, especially the ones from California. But honestly it feels like Eric Swalwell saw my low standards and took them as a personal challenge. With his golden boy looks and square jaw, Representative Swalwell first popped on my radar when he farted during an interview on CNN. As we the people are once again dragged through a second impeachment process against 45, imagine my surprise when…here was Eric Swalwell. Nancy Pelosi herself put Swalwell up as an impeachment manager and he has been doing just that this past week, managing the impeachment, making speeches etc. All of this is weird to me because less than three months ago, it was revealed that Eric Swalwell had been in bed with…China.

In early December, a story exploded on the internet detailing how a female Chinese spy had California Representative Eric Swalwell on her target list, among others. Christine Fang had been weaseling her way in with several California politicians, including Swalwell. The whole thing reads like a James Bond story: attractive foreign spy sleeps with politicians to get closer to other politicians, passes info back home and assists in moving other spies into place. Fang did all of this, doing it so well that she was under FBI surveillance. Everything came to a head in 2015 when the FBI got in touch with Swalwell and told him about Fang. Swalwell backed away from her and she left the US at some unknown point in 2015. We the people will never know the full story and scope of what happened, it’s all sealed up by the FBI but something most certainly did occur. So why is Eric Swalwell still in office, let alone on an intelligence committee or managing anything, including a symbolic impeachment process against someone who is now, by all counts, a private citizen?

Now more than ever, the US needs to be ever aware and cautious of China. It is highly unlikely that Christina Fang was the only active Chinese spy here in America. The UK has been booting out Chinese spies and even Russia seems to be having their own espionage problems with China. Questions and investigations into where COVID came from, human rights violations and to be honest, how dogs are treated over there are just a few of my grievances with China. So I have no trouble saying that a US Representative who got hoodwinked by a Chinese spy is a problem.

Eric Swalwell has no business serving on a US intelligence committee.

He also has no business serving as an impeachment manager and thankfully, my Senator came through for me, voicing my very thoughts via his Twitter account.

Senator Rand Paul tweeted out, “This afternoon we have been lectured to by Eric Swalwell, a guy accused of consorting with a Chinese spy. How appropriate!”

Well, we are not in a James Bond movie so if a Chinese spy gets the better of you, you probably shouldn’t be getting a second act to have a personal redemption arc.
