The 2020 election season is in full swing, and here at FFL we’re excited to see that there has been a surge in Republican women running for public office. We love to celebrate conservative women in all capacities and give our readers a look at what they stand for.

The filing date for the congressional and senate races for 2020 in North Carolina recently passed. There are 6 Republican women running for the House of Representatives in North Carolina. The primaries will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd.

Here’s what you need to know about these six women.

Sharon Hudson –  U.S. Senate

Sharon Hudson is a graduate from University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a B.A. in English and receiving her Secondary Teaching Certification. Hudson is a former First Vice President of North Mecklenburg Republican Women and served in the Mecklenburg GOP as a delegate, prescinct chairwoman, secretary and poll observer. She is one of the founders and former co-chairwoman of Lake Norman Conservatives and previously ran for N.C. House Seat 98 in 2014. Michele Nix – (NC-01)

Michele Nix was previously Vice Chairwoman of the North Carolina Republican Party. She was elected by the 1st District as a delegate for the 2016 Republican National Convention. Michele served as Secretary, Treasure, Vice Chairwoman, and Chairwoman of Lenoir County. She was elected as the Vice Chairwoman of the North Carolina Republican Party in 2015 and was re-elected in 2017. Sandy Smith – (NC-01)

Sandy Smith is a graduate from East Carolina University with a B.S. University Studies in Business & Technology. Smith has had a strong work ethic since the age of 3, starting her first business selling homemade salsa at a corner store. Sandy has had a range of different jobs, such as: working in the attractions division at Walt Disney Company, worked for a world-renowned doctor focusing on spinal biomechanics, a team training instructor helping to educate doctors on how to run a successful practice, and staff accountant for a large agricultural company. Sandy Smith is for protecting the unborn, supporting the men and women in blue, protecting the 2nd amendment, open-market healthcare, and securing our border. Virginia Foxx – (NC-05)

Virginia Foxx is a graduate from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was the first person in her family to graduate from high school. Foxx has had a lot of different job opportunities, such as: owning and operating a nursery and landscaping business with her husband, research assistant, English instructor at both Caldwell Community College and Appalachian State University, President of Mayland Community College Deputy Secretary for Management and serving in the North Carolina Senate.She has been the Representative of North Carolina District 05 since 2005, making her re-elected 6 times. Laura Pichardo – (NC-06)

Laura Pichardo is a graduate from University of North Carolina at Greensboro with an Economics degree with a concentration in Finance. Pichardo also  earned her Masters in Business Administration from Winston Salem State University. She currently works as a Global Transaction Services Accounts Payable Analyst, providing production support for the Accounts Payable systems. Lynda Bennett – (NC-11)

Lynda Bennett is a graduate from the University of New Hampshire. She has a business background of 33 years in real estate, owning and operating a real estate company and vacation rental management company with her husband. Bennett served as the Vice-chair of the Haywood County Republican Party and has served as past GOP Secretary. In 2019, Lynda received the Golden Elephant Award for volunteerism. She was elected as a delegate to North Carolina state conventions, as well as an alternate delegate to two national conventions. Lynda Bennett is for securing our border, re-electing President Trump, protecting the 2nd amendment, protecting the unborn, and affordable healthcare.
