The 2020 election season is in full swing, and here at FFL we’re excited to see that there has been a surge in Republican women running for public office. We love to celebrate conservative women in all capacities and give our readers a look at what they stand for.

The filing date for the Washington congressional races recently passed, and there are seven women running for United States Congress. Washington will have their primary on August 4th, 2020. Washington has what is commonly called a “jungle primary”, where all candidates run head-to-head in the primary regardless of party affiliation. The top two vote-getters advance to the general election.

Here’s what you need to know:

Carrie Kennedy (WA-02)

Kennedy is filed to run in Washington’s Second Congressional District. A working campaign website could not be found, but according to her Facebook and Twitter pages, she is an avid Trump supporter. The district is currently held by Democrat Representative Rick Larsen and is rated D+10 by Cook PVI.

Jamie Herrera Beutler (WA-03)

A five term congresswoman, Herrera Beutler is running for re-election in her R+4 district. She was born and raised in Southwest Washington and graduated from the University of Washington with a Communications degree. Her major platform points include protecting public lands, supporting our seniors and veterans, returning education choices to local control, and fighting the opioid epidemic. During her almost ten years in office, she has a long list of legislative accomplishments.

Tracy Wright (WA-04)

Wright is making her first run at federal office in Washington’s Fourth Congressional District. According to her website, she has a degree in Computer Science and has experience in the government sector and the telecommunications and banking industries. She ran for city council in Grand Coulee after accusing the city of violating her Fourth Amendment rights. Wright is one of several candidates trying to oust current Republican Representative Dan Newhouse.

Sarena Sloot (WA-04)

A nurse practitioner with fourteen years of healthcare and leadership experience, Sloot is also running in Washington’s Fourth Congressional District. Her priorities include healthcare reform, strengthening our borders, defending the Second Amendment, and immigration reform. The district is rated R+13, so even if one of the top two vote-getters is a Democrat, the Republican candidate should be safe.

Cathy McMorris Rogers (WA-05)

An impressive eight term congresswoman, McMorris Rogers is seeking another term representing Eastern Washington. She served as Chair of the Republican House Caucus from 2013-2019 and has used her power to advocate for affordable healthcare, transportation project grants, and rural broadband access. In an R+8 district, it’s safe to say that Rogers will cruise to re-election.

Elizabeth Kreiselmaier (WA-06)

Dr. Kreiselmaier has spent over seventeen years in education research and is now trying her hand at public office. Her priorities are grouped into three categories: strong families, strong communities, and strong country. An example from each include tax cuts, support for the military and police officers, and immigration reform respectively. The D+6 district is currently represented by Democrat Representative Derek Kilmer.

Nancy Dailey Slotnik (WA-10)

Slotnik is a veteran and small business owner running for Washington’s Tenth Congressional District. This race is crowded due to the fact that current Democrat Representative Denny Heck is running for Lieutenant Governor of Washington. According to her campaign website, Slotnick prioritizes local control of education, Social Security, and the protection of Washington’s veterans. The district is rated by Cook PVI as D+5.
