June 7, 2016 is a day I will never forget because it’s the day I never thought would become a  reality. America is a great country that is not afraid to adapt to increasingly modern times or to take on another role if something is outdated. That being said, America scares me, sometimes taking things too far, especially with the candidates Americans have voted for. I’ll look back on this day as a teaching moment for my future children. I’ll tell them they can be whatever they want in America and that can be a great thing, but that it can also potentially be detrimental to the American people.

For instance, a woman who has been admired for 20 years now, emphasizes that she has made it her life’s work to look out for women’s issues. Contrary to the perfect picture she paints, Hillary has been involved in multiple scandals. The Whitewater controversy refers to a failed real-estate investment Bill and Hillary Clinton made in 1978. Although no inquiry ever produced evidence of wrongdoing, investigations ultimately led to President Clinton’s impeachment for perjury and obstruction of justice. The investigation, led by special prosecutor Robert B. Fiske, found that Clinton had pressured David Hale into making a loan that benefited both Bill Clinton and Madison Guaranty. While the Clintons initially reported the records as missing, the documents eventually were found and the Clintons were cleared of any wrongdoing. Then there was the time she was being accused of a scandal called Travelgate in 1993. Both the Clinton’s were involved in firing seven White House staff members. Because of the media attention from these layoffs, many were rehired. While Independent Robert Ray issued a final report, not charging Hillary Clinton, she was found to be the central role in the firings. She also went before a committee and admitted to sending an email to family saying “Hey, this attack in Benghazi was caused by Al-Qaida like elements”. Despite this knowledge, Hillary spent over a week telling the victims’ families and the American people that a video caused the attack. Within a week she was exposed as a liar. Not to mention she is under FBI investigation, claiming “there is no basis for any further investigation. Nothing I sent or received at the time was marked classified.” Yet we know that she deleted emails because there wouldn’t be an FBI investigation if there was nothing to investigate in the first place. This is a woman who has always gotten her way and never been charged, as you can see, yet she claims to stand for what is right.

On the other side, we have a businessman who started out working for his father’s company while still in college. This businessman began learning the real-estate business and found his niche renovating as well as buying out hotels. He then hit a rough patch, claiming business bankruptcy when three of his executives were killed by one of his shuttles which led to major issues. However, he got back on his feet soon afterwards by opening the Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City. He now owns Miss Universe, including Miss USA, as well as his own University which is under investigation as to whether or not it’s a legitimate university. His net worth is $4 billion and while people don’t like him as a presidential candidate, no one seemed to have a problem with him as just a businessman. In 2013, CPAC invited him to be a speaker at their convention. The American people are wondering who Donald Trump really is because of all of these back and forth stories about Trump being a great father, who is always wanting to spend time with his family and a great businessman, obviously. Unfortunately, at times, he has proven to be far from presidential material as he sometimes has the mouth of a sailor. Many Republicans are on the fence about supporting him because he’s been known to give money to democratic candidates, such as the Clintons back in the day when Bill ran for presidency. It’s hard to take a man like this seriously. Nevertheless, he was fed up with how the government was going about things and knew something had to be done, and just like he’s done before, he took it upon himself to make a change by running for president. Everyone thought it was a joke at first but look where he is now; the GOP nominee for president.

These two candidates were far from my choice of candidates to be running for this election coming to a close in November. Who would’ve thought that numerous criminal investigations, as well as the recent events concerning her emails, wouldn’t be enough for the prosecutor to make his case and trade Hillary’s pantsuits for an orange jumpsuit. Yet Hillary Clinton, unscathed from any charges held against her, is now the first woman to win the democratic nomination. And who would’ve thought, a well known businessman who had more money than he knew what to do with, a tv show, many hotels, a University, and multiple golf courses, just to name a few, would be so fed up with how the government was run that he felt a sense of duty to do something himself. Trump has run his mouth, shot down people whom he should’ve welcomed with open arms, and spoken before thinking on multiple occasions. Instead of the GOP leaving him high and dry, thanks to the media and citizens who are also fed up with where our nation is today, the public has encouraged him. The media has hyped him up so much that this is a new Donald we have never seen before, someone the people either hate or love because there’s no in between. Despite all of this, he is now representing the GOP as their nominee. If any of y’all saw this coming, I applaud you because I never dreamed I would see the day where the choices for President in 2016 would be Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.
