In today’s society, there is an uncertainty about feeling safe, fear of the next tragedy happening, or even who will be elected to uphold public office. Turning on the news or scrolling through the trending section on Twitter is enough to cripple someone with fear. It is more than obvious that this world we live in is a mess. However, as Christians, we can put our hope in our Creator, because He tells us not to fear.

When I was younger, I used to have anxiety attacks multiple times a day. I felt like I was a slave to these attacks, because it caused fear to cripple me of things that I wanted to do. God tells us not to fear, if we are children of God, He has our lives planned out and we need to be obedient and follow Him.

During the time I struggled with being fearful, someone I looked up to encouraged me to read Psalm 91. This chapter of the Bible changed my life. No matter what happens in our lives, or the world around us, God is sovereign and He knows the beginning and the end of everything. We do not know the future, but we can rest assured knowing that the God that we worship is in control.

Psalm 91:4-6 states: He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.”

God desires for us to draw close to Him. If we truly take time to think that Creator of the universe calls us His child, then fear will begin to subside. No matter what happens in the world around you, keep your eyes on Him.
