Late Sunday night, Senior Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway announced that she would be stepping down from her role at the end of the month. In her statement, she thanks the President, First Lady, Vice President, Second Lady, and her colleagues in the administration for the honor of working with them.

She explained that her four children are all starting classes online this semester and she and her husband George are stepping back from their jobs in order to assist with the transition. She said that for now, it will be “less drama, more mama.”

I want to take a moment to thank Kellyanne for everything that she’s done since beginning her career and rising to become a household name. She started out in polling and created her own successful company early in her career. In the 1990s, she was one of the “pundettes” that rose to national fame criticizing the Clinton administration. Her list of campaigns feature several superstars such as former Vice President Dan Quayle, Representative and eventual Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and Representative and now Vice President Mike Pence.

She conducted polls for President Trump in 2013 when he floated a run for New York Governor and eventually became his presidential campaign manager in 2016. She is the first woman to manage a successful presidential campaign. Even after significant media attention led to death threats and suspicious packages, she has held her head high and powered forward.

I know that conservative women across the nation are waiting to see what she will do next. In the statement, she said that an announcement will come in due time.

Working in politics is no easy feat, and the way she paved her own path and climbed the ladder is admirable. Having such a strong woman defend the President and be such a close confidant is inspiring to women like me. I met Conway at a College Republican National Committee reception in 2017 after she spoke about her role in the administration — she said she loved my name and couldn’t wait for us to follow in her footsteps.

Hopefully sooner rather than later, this will turn into having a woman in the White House. Thank you for paving the way for future female leaders, Kellyanne Conway.
