Labor Day is a holiday to celebrate the achievements of American workers who are working hard each and every day for themselves and their family. It is a holiday to take a break during the craziness of life, and enjoy time with friends and family. Sometimes when life gets crazy, it seems like there is not time to take a break and “smell the roses.” However, Labor Day is the day where you should put the world on pause and enjoy. Here are some great activities to do on Labor Day with your friends and family.

Host a cookout

Everyone looks a good cookout as it brings people together for food and friendship. If you are hosting, try to make a potluck. You’ll alleviate some of the cost and it makes it fun for everyone. Make sure that you have enough water and soft drinks as it will likely be hot, and you want to make sure that your guests are properly hydrated.

Go to the beach or lake

If you are able, a great way to spend Labor Day is relaxing and having fun at the beach or on the lake. You need to make sure that you have enough sunscreen and beverages for people as it will be hot on the water.

Visit local breweries or wineries

Labor Day is the perfect time to relax with friends at a local brewery/winery and simply enjoy life. Make sure to call before you go. Their hours may vary due to the holiday.

Go to a college football game

If you live in a college town, it is likely that your team might play on Labor Day. If so, make the most of it and tailgate and go to the game.

A day on the golf course

One of my favorite things to do with my fiance is to spend the day on the golf course. It is the perfect time to spend time with another person and simply disconnect from the rest of the world. Get some friends to go, and make it a double date.

A day by the pool

If you are lucky enough to have a pool or live at an apartment complex with a pool, make the most of it. Invite some friends over and cool off in the pool. Don’t forget the snacks, beverages and sunscreen.

Check out a national or state park

Labor Day is the perfect time to finally visit your local national or state park. Perhaps you can spend the day hiking trails or investigating caves. Whatever you are able to do at your local park, you will have a great time.

Go to a local festival

Check out your community’s calendar as there is likely a festival near by. You should grab a friend or two, and go enjoy the day. Get a fried smores, lemonade and maybe some items from local vendors.

Go to an amusement park

Labor Day is the perfect day to go to an amusement park with friends. Make sure you wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Pack some sunscreen and get ready for a day of thrills.

Plan a mini vacation

Take advantage of the long weekend and take a mini vacation to a local destination. Make sure to plan your trip accordingly as places hours could vary during the holiday. Relax, unwind, and enjoy your time away from home.
