The Bush family is a staple of the young conservative for a few reasons. George W Bush’s presidency is, for many people my age, the president we first remember learning about. With George HW Bush and his wife’s deaths in the past few years, there has been a renewed interest in the older Bush administration and, in general, the Bush family. That’s something that I think has held up: the interest in them as a family, a group of close-knit individuals who all find success in various ways. This fall, Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of George W Bush and Laura Bush, has a new book out that talks about her experiences growing up Bush and how her grandparents love story and losing them both influenced the way she is raising her children.

In anticipation of the book, and because we all have a fascination with the Bush family for different reasons, let’s look at the Bush Family Bibliography: aka, the books published by the big figures of the Bush family, all three generations we know!

A World Transformed

Bush co-authored this book with his National Security Advisor to talk about the major world issues that occured during Bush’s four years in office . The China Diary of George HW Bush: The Making of a Global President

Before he was president, Bush had a fascinating life and served as the head of the US Liaison Office in China in the 1970s. This is a behind the scenes look at his experience there, and a fascinating read as we evaluate what has, and hasn’t, changed in China in the decades since.

Looking Forward

Nowadays we know that everyone writes a campaign book, and back in 1987, George HW Bush was no exception. This book, Looking Forward, looks at his qualifications, his experiences as vice-president, and his thoughts on various issues!

Barbara Bush

Pearls of Wisdom: Little Pieces of Advice (That Go a Long Way)

Do you love quips, advice, and wisdom from your grandmother? This book by Barbara Bush offers just that–lots of advice from herself and others, and it’s full of heart.

Barbara Bush: A Memoir

This memoir was Barbara Bush’s chance to control her story–to talk about her life as “The Enforcer” before the White House and in it. She talked about her marriage to George HW Bush, her upbringing, raising her children, losing their daughter, and her transition to being first lady. It’s a thick book full of interesting insight into Mrs. Bush’s life!

Reflections: Life After the White House

After four years as first lady, and more as second lady, Barbara Bush was more than happy to reflect on her life afterwards, on the joys of stepping away from the public eye and being back among family. Not many people see the White House, or life afterwards, and Barbara Bush’s memoir of it all is insightful!

Your Own True Colors: Timeless Wisdom from America’s Grandmother

There’s a tradition of turning beloved, popular commencement addresses into books–and donating the proceeds to chairty–and Barbara Bush is part of that club with this book. Your Own True Colors is her 1990 commencement address to Wellesley College and a great read for graduates!

Millie’s Book

Barbara Bush was the first to “author” a book by her White House pet, a dog named Millie, about Millie’s life!

C Fred’s Story

Following the same vein as Millie’s Book, C Fred’s Story also follows the life of one of the presidential pets of George HW Bush!

Doro Bush Koch

My Father, My President

Doro, the daughter of George HW Bush and Barbara Bush, penned this heartwarming account of growing up Bush. She talks about his father as a father, but also as a president. This comes from an unique position for someone who was a grown adult before he entered the White House. This is even more touching to read now that HW has passed away.

Jeb Bush

Reply All: A Governor’s Story

While George W Bush was president, his brother Jeb was serving as the Governor of Florida. Long before he ran for president, Jeb penned this book about his years as governor and his leadership style. This is a book that many would call a “Campaign style” book but that is a great insight into the man who many thought would be the 2016 nominee!

Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution

Jeb Bush was passionate about immigration issues during his 2016 run, and that wasn’t a brand new position for him. Instead, it was a lifelong passion, and he addresses his thoughts on the American immigration system in this book–a policy book but very focused!

Profiles in Character

Another policy book–this book, co-authored by Jeb–explores issues related to “cultural decline” in Florida and attempts to find solutions to them! How can a governor help fix child poverty, public education systems, and more? He lays it out here.

George W Bush

Decision Points

Obviously, George W Bush had to make a lot of hard decisions as president. He was criticized for many of them. In this book, part memoir, part policy book, Bush explains his decisions about certain things, talks about how his eight years in office, and for many people, provided a uniquely human insight into a man who had a lot going on the entire time he was in office.

41: A Portrait of My Father

41 is George W Bush’s intimate, heartfelt book about his father, HW, and is a real treat to read! One president writing about another is something you so rarely see.

George W Bush’s campaign book was called A Charge to Keep. Published in 1999, he talked not only about his experience as Texas governor but also his plan for the country, for tackling the big issues, and honestly, convinced many people to vote for him!
