This New Podcast Is Perfect For Future Constitutional Lawyers

Looking for a new podcast? Aren’t we all! Well,if you’ve got your sights set on sitting on the Supreme Court, if you just want to be more in-tune with the Constitutional conversations being had these days, you need to hit subscribe on this podcast ASAP. 

“Amarica’s Constitution” is the latest passion project of renown Constitutional scholar Akhil Amar, who teaches at Yale Law School and has authored several books on the subject. You also might remember him from recent Supreme Court Confirmation hearings. 

More specifically, “Akhil Reed Amar is Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University, where he teaches constitutional law in both Yale College and Yale Law School. His work has won awards from both the American Bar Association and the Federalist Society, and he has been cited by Supreme Court justices across the spectrum in more than forty cases.”

The podcast launched right after the January 6th, 2021 attacks on the U.S. Capitol, so not only is this podcast full of good conversation, it’s also timely! As of the end of March, there have been 12 episodes already, and I can’t wait to watch how this project evolves throughout the rest of the year. 

The first episode discussed the inauguration, what happens if and when a president dies, and all those questions it feels really awkward to ask sometimes. Episode 4 covered the second impeachment of Donald Trump and the constitutionality of impeaching former office-holders. Episode 8 dives deep into Founding Father George Washington, and episode 10 talks about Thomas Jefferson. 

This isn’t your normal Constitutional podcast. It’s not going to force you to memorize the preamble or do an episode by episode recounting of each amendment. Rather, it’s going to engage with the real world, the way we use our Constitution today, the way it relates to the founding, and what the heck we should know about the Constitution today. It helps that Amar is a very engaging speaker, has access to top-notch guests, and keeps it all relevant, all while absolutely schooling you. 

Something I really enjoy about this podcast is the show notes–Amar links articles he references, relevant books and topics, etc. It’s great for taking the content of the podcast episode, but then exposing yourself to an even greater learning opportunity. It’s really easy to just listen to a 40 minute podcast, take your earbuds out at the end, and go on with your day. This podcast gives you a chance to keep the education going.
