Conservatives are no stranger to the concept of cancel culture. This time, a famous beauty influencer has become the latest victim. Amanda Ensing, a well-established personality in the beauty community and famous YouTuber, has become cancelled for her outspoken conservative and Christian beliefs.

Ensing started her YouTube channel in 2012, and has grown to 1.42 million subscribers in 2021. It’s safe to say with her following count, she is a well-known name in the industry. Over time, she has had the ability to partner with brands like Sephora.

On January 27th, Ensing uploaded a YouTube video featuring her favorite Sephora products; it was also sponsored by the brand as well. Soon after this video premiered, a series of tweets from the influencer were brought to light. The most talked about tweets were those from the Capitol riots of January 6th

One of Ensing’s tweets included:

“The left:

I hate it here. America is embarrassing. Only we can riot & loot. Defund the police. Just do what the government tells you & don’t ask questions.

The right:

Let’s fight for freedom. We love the USA. Defend the Constitution. We support our Military & Law enforcement 🇺🇸”

Some fans of the Sephora brand were quick to point out Amanda’s beliefs to the brand itself, immediately criticizing the brand for partnering with a conservative like Ensing.

After many comments from Instagram users, Sephora responded:

“We were made aware that Amanda Ensing, an influencer contracted through one of our external vendors’ campaigns, recently shared content on social media that is not aligned with Sephora’s values around inclusivity. As soon as we were informed, we made the decision to cease all programming with Amanda and will not be engaging her for future partnerships.”

Amanda Ensing definitely did not back down from her beliefs. In a 15-minute video posted to her Instagram page, she went into full detail of what happened and her response as well. She shared “when my legal team requested an answer as to why they are ceasing relationships and want me to remove the video, we had been given no answer. The only thing we had been given was a clause in the contract.” She continues to explain that she has only started to receive hate comments after sharing her conservative and Christian views. Ensing is sure she got cut from her Sephora contract because of these views.  “I came from filming videos eight years ago in my bedroom to where I am, where I’m at now. I didn’t come living in a house with unfinished floors, eating Ronald McDonald to where I’m at now, to be silenced by big companies when they don’t agree with my political views,” she stated.

Ensing is a proud Christian, Latina, and conservative. She will not be silenced and is now ready to embark on her own brand. Five days ago, she posted a follow up video titled “Make Makeup Great Again” to her Instagram, thanking her supporters and sharing her future plans. She announced her own company that she has been working on for two years: a brand made in the U.S.A, vegan, cruelty free, great ingredients and formulas, with inclusivity in mind.

You do not have to agree with everything Amanda Ensing believes or says, I do not see eye to eye with her 100% either. You do not have to actively support her and her brand. But I think everyone should agree that any influencer, or ordinary person alike, should not be cancelled for having differing political and religious beliefs. In a time like 2021 where unity and inclusiveness are encouraged, it’s time to eliminate the double standard and offer the same to conservatives too.
