No doubt that it is very tedious to make a resume, write a cover letter, and prepare for job interviews. The last thing you may want to read is that there is something else that should be done, which will help you complete job preparation steps. That’s right. You need to make an internship diary.

What is an internship diary?

It’s a diary of all of your tasks from your internship on an online document, notebook, etc. Add everything you have contributed to your internship. This will help you when you”re updating your resume and cover letters as well as preparing for job interviews.  Below are steps to organize an internship diary as well as a few tips to help you get started.

1) Organize your list by separating your responsibilities into different sections. Add as many sections necessary.

Example:

Section 1: Campaign

A. Blockwalking

B. Phone banking

C. Assembling campaign literature

Section 2: Communications

A. Answering phones

B. Emails

C. Social media management

2) Add to your list who you assist.

Example 1: I assist the staff members at the Republican Party Headquarters

Example 2: I assist the staff member(s) on a campaign.

3) Include internship hours

Example: I work from 9am -1pm five days a week.

Update your internship diary frequently, specifically from the beginning to the end of your internship. If you do not update your internship diary, it is likely that you may be unable to recall specific details of a task(s) you have completed. Use your internship diary as a reference to make your resume and write a cover letter. An internship diary will also help you prepare your answers for a job interview. It will save you time and keep you organized.
