After calls for unity in his inauguration speech, President Joe Biden used the power of the pen to dismantle some of President Trump’s executive orders. In total, he signed 17 executive orders on day one of his presidency. Let’s break it down:

Census EO’s

  • Requires non-citizens to be included in Census and appropriate congressional representatives proportionally to those numbers. (Overturns a Trump EO)

COVID EO’s

  • 100 Day Masking Challenge: Asking Americans to wear masks for 100 days and requires masks and physical distancing on federal buildings, property, and land. 

  • COVID-19 Response Coordinator position created. This position will report directly to the president. 

  • The United States will no longer withdraw from the World Health Organization and Anthony Fauci will be the head of the delegation for WHO. (Overturns a Trump executive order.)

Economy EO’s

  • Extends the existing pause on student loan interest and payments until at least September 30.

  • Extends the existing nationwide moratorium on foreclosures and evictions until at least March 31.

Environment EO’s

  • Rejoining the Paris climate accord (Overturns a Trump executive order).

  • Canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline (Overturns a Trump executive order).

Ethics EO’s

  • Require executive branch appointees to sign an ethics pledge that says they won’t act on their own personal interest and that they will uphold independence of the Department of Justice.

Equity EO’s

  • Prevents discrimination at the workplace on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation.

  • Rescinds the 1776 Commission and directs agencies to ensure racial equity (Overturns a Trump executive order).

Immigration EO’s

  • Lifts travel ban for passport holders from seven Muslim-majority countries (Overturns a Trump executive order).

  • Undoes Trump’s expansion of immigration enforcement (Overturns a Trump executive order). 

  • Stops construction of border wall by terminating national emergency declaration that funded it (Overturns a Trump executive order). 

  • Ensures DACA to protect undocumented people brought into the country as children.

Regulation EO’s

  • Directs OMB director to develop recommendations that would modernize regulatory review (Overturns a Trump regulatory approval process).
