If you are attending your first professional work conference, there are a few things that you need to bring with you. It can be intimidating on what to bring if you have never attended one before, but have no fear. Here are five things that are must-haves when attending any professional conference.

Business cardsIf you are going to a professional conference, it is crucial to bring business cards to hand out to those who you are meeting. To make an even bigger impression, try business cards that have a QR code for your LinkedIn. Your business cards should be updated with your current position and contact information.

Portable phone chargerIf you are spending all day networking and responding to emails during breaks, a portable phone charger will be a life saver. You don’t want to have a dead phone when trying to put someone’s number in your phone that you just met.

Business type purseMake sure that you have a business type purse if you are going to a professional conference.Make sure that it is big enough to carry a notebook, sweater, and a water bottle. There are many different options when looking for a business type purse. My personal favorite is my large black Kate Spade. It is big enough to hold everything  yet still looks professional.

Pen and paperIf you are attending a conference, try not to take notes on your computer. Rely on pen and paper. It can be tempting to do other work or skim social media when taking notes on a laptop. I feel as though when I take notes on pen and paper, it also serves as a break from technology.

Comfortable outfitsIf you are going to be sitting for multiple hours and then getting dinner/drinks with people after the conference, you want to make sure that you are professional yet comfortable clothes and shoes. Most conferences are business casual. Don’t feel like you have to wear a pantsuit. Try a loose yet professional dress.
