It can be difficult to start building your professional wardrobe. It’s good to get a start on this in college so that you can be prepared for anything that comes your way, including interviews and internships. Here are 10 essential pieces that every female leader should have in their professional wardrobe.
1) Power Suit
A power suit is probably the biggest essential. It is especially important to have for interviews. This can vary from person to person, depending on the style you like and what is appropriate for your job. While power suits do vary, they typically involve a pair of suit pants/a skirt and a blazer. These can be found at basically any department store, or professional store.
2) Classic Blazer
A classic blazer can go along with the suit, but it’s always great to have one or two additional blazers in your collection. These can be paired with a nice pair of pants, a skirt, or even jeans if you’re dressing more casually on a “dress-down” day.

3) Pencil skirt
Pencil skirts project an incredibly professional look and they’re comfortable, too. They’re the perfect way to avoid wearing pants while remaining professional and stylish. They can be perfectly paired with nude heels and a neutral blouse.
4) Variety of Blouses
Having a variety of blouses is perfect because they can be paired with anything. A blouse is especially easy to grab and put on when you’re running late. They look cute, too.
5) Slacks
Slacks are obviously essential, because they’ll be useful for everyday wear at most jobs. They come in so many different styles, colors and patterns. There’s something for everyone and every day.
6) Flats
While heels tend to be every girl’s go to, flats are more practical, especially if you’re at a job where you’ll be on your feet for a good part of every day. They look cute and are extremely comfortable for long walks across the office.

7) A good pair of heels
For days that you decide to brave the heels, I definitely recommend pointed heels. They look extremely professional and you can find some that are comfortable, as well.
8) Accessories
This is the part that will spice up your outfit every day and keep it fun, while still professional. A statement necklace, cute bracelet, or fun pair or earrings will add a fun flair to any outfit. It’s important to have a good selection of them.
9) Statement Handbag
This is yet another piece that is fun yet professional & practical. I recommend a larger one that can fit everything. Don’t make it so big that you can barely haul it around. Kate Spade has some cute ones that are the perfect size.
10) Cute Jacket
This is a must if you live in a colder state. Once the winter weather hits, you’re going to need to start dressing for the cold. It’s important to maintain a professional appearance while keeping warm. I recommend a pea coat or trench coat. You can also layer with scarves and gloves to add more warmth.
