Can you believe that we are less than 3 months away from election day? Looking back at the past year and a half, no one expected the ups and downs and an outcome that resulted in a Clinton vs. Trump general election. In fact, it was what everyone said wouldn’t happen. Many of us, along with prominent news anchors and pollsters, never thought an election like this would occur. Here’s five thoughts we were actually thinking.

  1. YAY IT’S ELECTION SEASON

For the average political junkie, election season is a lot like Christmas. You get a lot less presents and a lot more heartbreak. Elections are filled with the fun and excitement of getting behind a candidate you truly believe in.  You cheer them on during debates, and volunteer for their campaign. In the beginning of 2015, the Republican Party had 17 candidates to chose from. We had so much hope for the future.

  1. I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL OBAMA IS OUT AND A REPUBLICAN IS IN

We had more optimistic views on life than a child going to Disney World for the first time. Us conservatives all felt a sense of relief that Obama’s last term was coming to an end. It was finally time for a change in the White House. All of us could finally see the bright light at the end of a dark, dark tunnel. There wasn’t a doubt in our minds that a Republican would be the next president of the United States.

  1. WALKER 2016? RUBIO 2016? PAUL 2016?

I don’t know about you, but you could not convince me that Scott Walker wouldn’t be our next President in March of 2015.  Ironically, he was the first candidate to drop out.  There were 17 candidates. Most of which were well known Republican politicians who were qualified for the job. We were excited to see which one would come out on top and get us pumped for beating the Democratic nominee.

  1. HA! HILARY WILL NEVER GET THE NOMINATION

We knew Hillary was crooked before it was cool. There was no way the DNC would nominate a lying, scandalous, should-be-in-prison woman as their nominee. Despite the lack of promising candidates on the left, we weren’t worried. The FBI was closing in on her and she’d be indicted.  Joke was on us.

  1. LOL WHAT IS DONALD TRUMP DOING

Remember that time Donald Trump, the reality TV star, announced he was going to run for President? At that time, everyone thought it was a joke.  When we knew he would get crushed in the primaries. We thought he would drop out in a few weeks and we wouldn’t hear from him again. Boy were we wrong.
