Cyndi Lauper said that girls just wanna have fun… But we think girls just wanna have guns.   The number of women who owned guns spiked to 23% in 2011, compared to 13% in a 2005. The National Shooting Sports Foundation found in 2012 that 73% of gun dealers and retailers experienced an increase in female customers from previous years.  Another study by the National Sporting Goods Association showed from 2001 to 2013 there was a 60% rise in women who participate in target shooting. On the hunting side, there was 85% growth among women. The percentage of women who report household gun ownership is also at a new high, now registering 43%. This is up 19% from 36% in 2010.  Lastly, Crime Prevention Center noted women obtaining concealed carry permits rose 270 percent since 2007.  The gun industry is welcoming this increase in women interest and ownership with open arms by selling pink guns and holsters and even holding women’s only shooting classes and ladies nights at shooting ranges. It has never been easier for women to show their 2A support.

There are many reasons why women are choosing to arm themselves more and more each year, but the most obvious reason is self-defense. As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse. That’s 200,000 reasons that women should be able to carry a firearm.

Not only do they deter sexual abuse, but states which passed concealed carry laws reduced their murder rate by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7% and robbery by 3%. Statistics prove that firearms do the exact opposite of what many want us to believe. They do not do more harm than good. They are vital to the safety and security of our homes, work places, family, and ourselves. Many tend to say “girls just wanna have fun-danmental rights,” well…. one of those rights is to be able to defend themselves. When you take a stand against guns, you take a stand against women protecting themselves from violence. And that might just be the REAL war on women. Everyone should partake in exercising their Second Amendments rights.  Support 2A!
