As we wrap up 2017, here’s to the people who have helped keep our country great!
Representative Mia Love defies every stereotype. She’s a black, female, Mormon Republican from the state of Utah. Not only does she fly in the face of identity politics: she also steadfastly holds reasonable right-wing positions.
Rand Paul is the foremost fighter for liberty in the US Senate. He is confident in the ethics and constitutionality of his beliefs and champions the cause of liberty no matter what obstacles come his way.
He’s eloquent, inspiring, reasonable, and principled, and these qualities seem to be becoming rarer and rarer in politicians every day. Marco Rubio is a breath of fresh air because his ideas are good and his rhetoric is civil.
Elise Stefanik is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress – and she’s a Republican. She fights for common sense environmental policy and economic policy. She takes the high road towards people who exhibit sexism or demeaning behavior toward her.
Don Willett, while perhaps not as well known to the general public as others on this list, has become somewhat of an icon in the conservative movement due to his Constitutional expertise and hilarious Twitter account. He is a Texas Supreme Court justice. Willet has recently been nominated to serve in a US appellate court. He has three young children who he calls the “Wee Willetts” and loves to update the world on their antics.
Ben Sasse is a US Senator from Nebraska and another “conservatwitter” icon with a hatred for Nickelback and a love for measured, well-thought out policies. He isn’t always political, so he provides comic relief in an age where that can be difficult to do.
Nikki Haley is the former Governor of South Carolina and current Ambassador to the United Nations – a total girl boss in every way. She is extraordinarily knowledgeable, principled, and capable of getting things done.
Susana Martinez is the first female Governor of New Mexico and the first Hispanic female Governor in any state. In 2013, she was named one of the 100 most powerful people in the world. She has accomplished great things in New Mexico, including changing the state’s deficit to a surplus without raising taxes, creating a system which commends good teachers for their service, and crafting both environmentally and economically conscious energy policies.
Speaker Ryan advocates for common sense conservative policies without bending to everything the White House wants. He is capable of making his own good decisions and exhibits this as Speaker of the House every day. He’s basically the quintessentially charismatic and inspiring American leader.
George W. Bush
President Bush still remains the folksy leader he was as President years ago. From his hilarious dancing gif to his heartwarming Portraits of Courage project, George W. Bush inspires us all to be the best we can be.
