Earlier this month, President Elect Donald Trump announced that Reince Priebus, the current chairman of the Republican National Committee will transition into Chief of Staff once Trump takes office. In his victory speech, Trump referred to Priebus as “a superstar,” despite previous tension between the president elect and RNC. As always, FFL aims for our readers to be opinionated AND informed, so here are 9 fast facts about Reince Priebus.

  1. Reince Priebus is 44 years old and has been the longest serving RNC Chairman.

  2. When he took over, the RNC was $24 million in debt. By the end of his first year, he had raised more than $88 million.  In addition, he cut the RNC’s debt to $11.8 million.

  3. Reince is actually short for Reinhold.

  4. Priebus attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he was the student body president and president of College Republicans. He graduated cum laude in 1994 with a political science and English degree. He went on to the University of Miami School of Law, where he was president of the Student Bar Association. He graduated cum laude in 1998.

  5. Mr. Priebus is the former chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, where he is credited with helping to bring Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House, and Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin, into power. He is the youngest chairman the RPW has seen.

  6. Reince got involved with politics at a young age, beginning when he was 16 and volunteered for several political campaigns in high school.

  7. Reince Priebus married his high school girlfriend Sally whom he met at church when he was 18 and she was 16. Rumor has it he “wooed” her by taking her to a Lincoln Day Dinner. They now have two children together, Jack and Grace.

  8. There is no legal requirement for the president to appoint a chief of staff. Due to this, the role of a CoS has varied from administration to administration.

  9. Typically, the chief of staff manages the White House staff, the president’s schedule, and decides who is allowed to meet with the POTUS.
