Written from his son’s perspective, “41” takes an inside account from President George H.W. Bush’s life from a young boy up until his life after George W. Bush’s presidency. Full of anecdotes about the 41st President of the United States life, “41” will make you laugh, cry, think, and admire the life of an incredible man.
Starting at the beginning of his life, George W. Bush thoroughly details his father’s life from when he was growing up in Connecticut and explains many of the different trials that his father had gone through after he was born. The first part of the book focuses on his time during World War II and his time as a naval aviator in the United States Navy. He is able to share many stories, trials and tribulations, and anecdotes that his father had during this time and how they affected him as a person. George W. Bush then goes on to explain his father’s relationship with his mother Barbara, and how they came to be so incredibly in love.
As George W. gets further into the book he explains how he and the rest of his family supported their father throughout his political career and how they became each other’s biggest supporters and advocates. He starts by detailing H.W.’s first steps in politics when he was the Republican Chairman for his county and goes on to detail all of the different political trials and successes that his father had. He then goes on to explain how his father’s time in office shaped him into the politicians that he and his siblings became. One of the things that he really hones in on towards the end is the different ways that his father helped him when he ran for Governor of Texas and President of the United States. He was able to share many stories on how his father helped him during this time and also how he helped him during our nation’s most fragile time, 9/11.
Throughout the book, George W. Bush praises his father for his strength, dignity, and humble ways and gives examples of many stories about his father that are not very well known to the public. He is able to give you an inside look into the man that has been in the public eye for more than 50 years and explains his life in a way that no one else would be able to do and as a result, gives you an unseen look at his father and the 41st President of the United States.
