Being a girl boss is typically synonymous with a busy lifestyle filled with working, interning, and of course, achieving the goals we set for ourselves. All of that can make it difficult to unwind and get enough sleep.

There is no right way to create your bedtime routine, since it should fit your life. It can also be an ongoing project, adjusted as the season or day changes.

A bedtime routine should help you unwind and relax. Here are a few ideas to start off with:

Say no to the phone

By putting down your phone earlier and not mindlessly scrolling through Instagram after getting into bed, you will help your mind relax and be able to focus on what you are doing in the moment. It will also help your mind not get lost in comparison as you are trying to get some much-needed sleep.

Bonus tip: If you have an iPhone, you can set your phone to “Night Shift” which will make the color of your display less harsh if you need to be on it for later at night.

Pick out your clothes and get your bags ready

In the morning, one of the biggest dilemmas we can face is the age-old question of “I don’t know what to wear.” By getting your clothes picked out the night before, as well as getting your backpack or work bag ready, you avoid that question, giving you time in the morning for a few extra minutes of sleep.

Make some tea and grab a book

One of my favorite ways to unwind is with a steaming cup of my favorite tea. I usually do this towards the end of my routine because I have fallen asleep reading more than once. Reading before bed will help you fall asleep faster since you are not staring at a screen and can help you work through your list of books to read in 2018.

After a day of running around, doing a quick yoga routine can help your body stretch out and help you remember to breathe. You can find different routines for all time frames and levels on YouTube and Pinterest.
