Unless you’ve actually been living in isolation with no news and quite literally living off the grid, then you know about the coronavirus or what is professionally called COVID-19. With the spread of this pandemic, the media and it’s pundits have begun pointing fingers as to who is at fault. I see Facebook or Twitter posts blaming China, blaming Chinese people, blaming President Trump, and blaming the US military for the handling and “mismanagement” of the spread of COVID-19.

I am here to say this: stop making this political.

There are people dying. Yes, I am fully aware of how the flu is infinitely deadlier and that we never react like that when it’s flu season. This is different and that is the truth. Here is how Occupational Safety and Health Administration explains how COVID-19 is different than other viruses:

Just like there are different types of related viruses that cause smallpox, chickenpox, and monkeypox, different coronaviruses cause different diseases in people. The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) coronavirus causes SARS and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus causes MERS. The novel coronavirus, COVID-19 is one of seven types of known human coronaviruses. COVID-19, like the MERS and SARS coronaviruses, likely evolved from a virus previously found in animals. The remaining known coronaviruses cause a significant percentage of colds in adults and children, and these are not a serious threat for otherwise healthy adults.”

Due to the immediate gratification of society today, many were confused when President Trump made an announcement that drive-thru testing stations were going to begin popping up. Everyone began freaking out because they didn’t see these stations the very next day. Believe it or not, it is very hard to coordinate these kinds of mass deployments of tests and setting up locations that would allow for multiple tests at the same time and would move at a semi-normal pace.

There is no reason to be using this kind of pandemic and time of crisis to begin attacking people for policies that are ultimately out of their control. President Trump has called upon massive private corporations to assist in the testing. They are handling this the best that he is able. Just because you’re President of the United States does not mean that you can fix the health of the world in just a few days, or even at all.

The continuing spread of this virus is not due to the lack of inaction on the part of any administration; the continuing spread of this virus is because no one is practicing the many self-care and social distancing as they should. Staying inside and staying isolated is important to do. Attending parties and bars isn’t within yours, or your community’s, best interest. People not taking this as seriously as they should. This results in increasing numbers of people contracting the virus.
