As I’ve gotten older, I’ve struggled more and more with ways to honor veterans on Veteran’s Day. I like to think I live a life that honors them throughout the year, by engaging in patriotic activities, supporting the military, donating to and volunteering for programs that help veterans, sending care packages to active duty soldiers, et cetera.  But I know that I have a lot to learn. I’m working on being an active listener of veterans and active duty military people to better understand their experiences, but I also am trying to watch more movies about these experiences. Sure, they’re not perfect, and they aren’t always “realistic” representations, but I feel that each of these movies on this list can help provide an increased understanding of what our veterans experienced and will experience and help us understand the act of war as outsiders.
